History of BPA
The first scientific paper reporting on the synthesis of bisphenol A (BPA) was published in 1905, based on research conducted by Thomas Zincke of the University of Marburg in Germany. But it wasn’t until 1953 that scientists developed a new plastic called polycarbonate.
- 1905: First reported synthesis of BPA by Thomas Zincke of the University of Marburg Germany.
- 1953: Polycarbonate plastic is developed, using BPA as a key component.
- 1950’s: Commercial production of BPA and polycarbonate plastic begins.
